Porto Architecture Sketches
I have been living in Porto since November 2020, during this period of time. It has been an interesting personal living experience and journey. While in the midst of a pandemic, I had decided to move to another country where I did not know anyone or the language, and undaunted by this fact I was happy to embrace it.
While living In Porto, You can’t help but notice the distinctive architecture of Porto. What I noticed was the tall tired buildings, this exit because the central and old town of Porto is on a hill which flows down to Riberia is and the Douro river.
I liked the ceratin features of the architecture, which was the distinctive doorways, Tall and wide doors, mostly wooden with decorative design, the door knockers also stood out for me, these were sometimes hands or fish details. The windows of the buildings most of which opened out to balconies, I assume its a distinctive feature as well as one associated with the warm climate during the warmer months.
While living in Porto and noticing the architecture around me which was a complete contrast to what I used to and seeing in London it was easy to think about working on sketches of some locations around Porto which became familiar and interesting spaces after long walks during lockdown here in Porto I got to the know the city well discovering interesting places and vantage points while on Foot.
Here is a selection of Porto Architecture Sketches I have made while living In Porto, I find that drawing a location these days makes me more familiar with the city than just taking a photo of it. Only because I have to sit in the same location for a longer period to draw what I’m looking at.
