I had the pleasure of working with Kudu restaurants a small independent restaurant chain created by Amy Corbin and Patrick Williams. Amy Contacted me through social media after seeing my illustration of Kudu restaurant. I had created an illustration for a private gift commission for a client.
Amy’s commission to design a postcard size business card incorporating the kudu restaurant’s locations. The locations of Kudu collective all had to be illustrated on the postcard. The locations are important as they are all distinctively different from one another. The differences in the locations were also illustrated on the postcard in a subtle way.
On the reverse of the postcard Amy briefed for a simple street map of the kudu locations in relation to one another. The map would help customers navigate between the Kudu Collective restaurants. The map had the walking times between the locations a helpful map feature for customers to gauge distances between the locations.
One of the subtle details of the illustrations was to add little specific details of the locations into the illustrations. These included the broken tiles of Kudu represented as squares on the front of the postcard. The simple pattern design was taken from the hanging chandelier from Smokey Kudu and the wood details were taken from the details from curious Kudu.
