Gordon’s Gin Digital Illustration
I received a commission from Jenny Taylor, representing the Columbus Communications London design agency, to craft a digital illustration for a direct mail advertising brochure promoting Gordon’s Gin. This promotional material would be distributed to a broad audience of over 220,000 recipients via traditional mail and an additional 90,000 through email as part of the Christmas 2010 campaign.
The central concept for this project revolved around reimagining the classic holiday carol, “The Twelve Days of Christmas.” In a clever twist, the campaign was aptly named the “12 Serves of Christmas,” and my task was to develop a Gordon’s Gin menu. The ingenious idea was to feature a unique alcoholic recipe for each of the twelve days, with Gordon’s gin taking centre stage as the key ingredient.
In addition to the twelve recipe cards, which would be distributed as part of the direct mailer, I also designed an accompanying artwork to be sent via email. This email attachment was adorned with the words “Welcome to the Twelve Serves of Christmas,” framed by an elegantly crafted border composed of holly and mistletoe. Within this border, you would find elements reminiscent of the beloved Christmas carol, “The Twelve Days of Christmas,” including True Love, Turtle Doves, French Hens, Calling Birds, Golden Rings, Geese A-laying, Swans, Maids A-milking, Ladies Dancing, Lords A-leaping, Pipers Piping, and Drummers Drumming. These elements not only paid homage to the iconic song but also tied together the spirit of the festive season with the delightful offerings of Gordon’s Gin.
This project was an exciting blend of creativity and promotion, perfectly capturing the holiday spirit and the essence of Gordon’s Gin as an integral ingredient in the merriment of the season.
