Working Mother Magazine
Working Mother Magazine, based in New York, was looking to illustrate a series of illustrations in a way that exemplifies diversity and the challenges it poses as well for their upcoming article centred on Multicultural Women.
The Multicultural Women package focuses on the role women of colour play in the workplace, from being hired to them being promoted to one day running the company or being on the board of directors. The article writes about, what the most progressive companies are doing to develop and support a diverse workforce as well as some of the specific challenges multicultural women face at work as “double outsiders” — i.e. as both female and a minority.
Here is an illustration I created for Working mother, which was one of a series I had created for the working mother article. This particular illustration was not used for the article which happens depending on the direction from the editor, I chose to feature the illustration here on the blog, being a piece of illustrative work which has an interesting mix of decorative ethnic patterns inspired by African folk art, combined with a feminine vector illustration of a working woman.
