Travel and Leisure Magazine Buffalo Moleskine Food Map. Travel and Leisure magazine approached me to illustrate a food map of Buffalo City. Buffalo city is upstate and the second largest city in the New York state. Buffalo city has been undergoing a city development boosted by funding. Travel and Leisure magazine invited me to illustrate for their readers. A guide map showcasing new and established restaurants in the Buffalo area.

The map brief from Travel and Leisure magazine asked me to illustrate in my particular pen and ink detailed style. This was the first time I was asked to draw a map in a Moleskine. I then planned to photograph the map to be published for the Travel and Leisure article. I was an interesting element to my illustration process.

The list from the magazine editor consisted primarily of restaurants, which were to be illustrated for the magazine article. It was interesting as the illustrator to get to know a city I have never traveled to through my illustration of it.

Maps are a good tool to translate real-world information into a graphic form that can be easily understood by someone who reads the map. The reader can extract the map information to guide them to their desired destination efficiently. In the age of Smartphones that have digital map apps that guide you, map reading skills are In a slow decline.

I feel tangible maps you can hold and feel will always have an important place in the world. I think it’s important to keep maps as we have always needed them from maps which had been produced hundreds of years ago to present day map.
