Overview
No. 3 Clive Road is a luxury tea and lifestyle brand that celebrates Indian heritage through refined design, premium teas, and artisanal craftsmanship. Founded by Radhika Chopra, the brand fuses colonial-era elegance with contemporary aesthetics. I was commissioned to create a series of hand-drawn illustrated maps highlighting India’s iconic tea-growing regions—Darjeeling, Assam, Nilgiri, and Kangra—to accompany the brand’s single-estate classic teas.
Approach
The aim was to create a map series that not only visually located the tea origins, but also reflected the poetic richness of Indian tea culture. The aesthetic direction drew on the brand’s luxurious, tactile packaging—block prints, letter-press stationery, and heritage-inspired detailing—while infusing the artwork with warmth, authenticity, and regional character.
Each map was designed to function as both an informative guide and a standalone piece of art, aligning with No. 3 Clive Road’s mission to elevate everyday rituals through thoughtful design.
Design Details
The illustrated map series explored four major tea-producing regions:
-
Darjeeling – known as the “Champagne of teas”
-
Assam – bold, malty, and rich in history
-
Nilgiri – lush and aromatic, from the Blue Mountains
-
Kangra – subtle and floral, a lesser-known gem
Each regional map included:
-
Tea estates and plantations
-
Local towns and topographical features
-
National parks and cultural landmarks
Hand-drawn in fine detail, the illustrations were composed of delicate linework and spot drawings to complement No. 3 Clive Road’s elegant, minimal packaging. The illustrations were used across the Regional Tea Labels, offering a tactile and narrative layer to the tin packaging—designed to be collectible and reusable.
Outcome
These illustrated maps formed the visual centrepiece of No. 3 Clive Road’s Single Estate Classic Tea Collection, blending storytelling with design to elevate the unboxing experience. The artwork deepened the consumer’s connection to the origin of each tea, while aligning with the brand’s ethos of sustainability, refinement, and craftsmanship.
This project reflects my ongoing interest in map illustration as a form of visual storytelling—one that honours place, culture, and identity through bespoke illustration.
