Line drawing London Skyline Private Commission
The two illustrations presented above were commissioned by private clients, each seeking to capture their cherished memories of London through a map format. These maps were envisioned as heartfelt gifts, tailored to commemorate significant life experiences and journeys.
In the first instance, the map was commissioned as a gift from one dear friend to another. The recipient, who frequently travels between London and Hong Kong, holds a deep connection to both places. The memory locations chosen for the map were carefully selected, originating from Surbiton in South London, where the family home is located, to Hong Kong, their ancestral home. The intention behind this map was to encapsulate the rich tapestry of memories spanning two vibrant cities.
The second map was a heartfelt gesture from a wife to her husband, intended to celebrate their anniversary. This map was designed to chronicle their journey together, from the moment they first crossed paths to the beautiful memories they have shared up to the present day. It was a touching way to capture the essence of their life’s journey together.
Throughout the creative process, close collaboration with the clients was essential. Their input and vision played a crucial role in shaping the final illustrations. Given the intricate architectural details involved in these maps, a significant amount of drawing hours were dedicated to meticulously crafting each element. Subsequently, digital techniques were employed to compose and position these elements effectively, ensuring a harmonious and visually pleasing composition.
Ultimately, both clients expressed their utmost satisfaction with the final illustrations. These maps not only serve as beautiful pieces of art but also encapsulate a wealth of cherished memories, making them truly meaningful and sentimental gifts.
