Poplar HARCA Chrisp Street Map
Poplar HARCA is an organisation that is working on the regeneration of Poplar located close to Canary Wharf in London. The poplar map commission was to show the new facilities that were being constructed and where they will be, so that local residents can see what is being planned, rather than looking at architecture drawings or computer-generated visuals. It’s for Chrisp Street regeneration, to show what it could look like. The goal of the map was for it to be easy to read and engaging for local residents to see.
The map will be used to inform local residents/stakeholders about the new developments that will be happening in Chrisp Street, for example, the creation of cinema, refurbished market and shops. The regeneration agency plan to create a short information booklet for residents, like frequently asked questions, which the map would be used to illustrate where things will be.
The map illustration focused on the main market area of poplar and the well-known locations such as the festival of Britain Building the Clock Tower and the newly refurbished Poplar Swimming Baths. Icons and reference images were drawn upon to represent the regeneration areas of poplar and illustrated where their locations will be situated as a helpful map aid for the residents and shareholders.
