Los Angeles City Map Drawing, I travelled to Los Angles over 10 years ago while on a design research trip when I worked for a fashion company. I was inspired to draw a map of Los Angeles recently to add to the collection of city maps I have been illustrating.

This particular map I created a selection of different techniques which included watercolour washes and handwritten brush script type. These new techniques were created in addition to the hand-drawn black and white landmarks. The Los Angeles City Map Drawing was then layered and composed using photoshop. The Los Angeles landmarks were overlaid over the top of the background wash.

City maps are one of my personal favourite projects to work on. I enjoy researching a city which can be for a commercial commission or a personal project, such as my Moleskine day trips. I enjoy researching a city which could be a city I may or may not have travelled to. It’s a great way to get to know a city through the research. I fully appreciate there is no compensation for physically travelling to a city and experiencing it first had the sights and the smells. Maps are a unique piece of informative design which have been around for centuries, and they are constantly being developed and now have been given such importance that companies like Google, Apple, and Microsoft, for example, spend millions on developing their maps for Smartphones and another similar tech.
