If Yesterday was Today Exhibition
During the Summer I was asked to be part of a unique exhibition curated by Renata Kudlacek, and Nele Owens, The exhibition titled, If Yesterday was Today. I gave the title of the exhibition a lot of thought as it was not a very simple conceptual title. While thinking and sketching ideas for a piece of artwork for the exhibition, my ideas grew into the Parka pointillism Drawing.
The Parka drawing is a conceptual piece of work, and I wanted the viewer to be able to gaze at the drawing and the detail of the drawing and to allow them to use their imagination to interpret the meaning of my drawing.
As the drawing is faceless you are left wondering with confused thoughts about my piece of work. This is the reaction I am hoping to receive, as many of us often and daydream and about past experiences, which might be many years ago or even 5 seconds ago, we can bring those past thoughts back to today just by thinking of them in the present.
The challenging aspect of the drawing was to create a drawing using a single dot created from a Rotring pen .05 mm nib pen. I lightly sketched the drawing of the parka using a pencil and using the photograph as a reference started drawing the parka. The drawing to about 50 hours of drawing on and off, all of the drawing was a big learning curve being my first attempt at this particular style of drawing.
Overall the reaction for the drawing was well received.
The trip to Tuscany, ended up being a working holiday, the last minute project just before I was leaving was handed to me by my illustration agent, which I could not pass up. A great opportunity to be working for a well knows the brand, Chivas Regal. The brief was to draw a world map, which the majority of it was typographic. Working to a tight deadline, this meant I was working early morning and late evenings, while at the same time enjoying a mini holiday and also being part of a group exhibition with a group of international talented artists.
