Recently, I embarked on a journey to sketch some of Florence’s most iconic landmarks, immersing myself in the moment and preserving memories with each stroke of my pencil.

Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore from Piazzale Michelangelo

My first sketch was of the majestic Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, viewed from the stunning vantage point of Piazzale Michelangelo. The panoramic view from this piazza is breathtaking, offering a sweeping vista of Florence with the cathedral’s iconic dome dominating the skyline. As I sat down with my sketchbook, I felt a deep connection to the scene before me. The intricate details of the cathedral’s facade, the bustling activity below, and the serene Arno River all came together on my page. Sketching this view allowed me to truly appreciate the architectural marvels of Florence and the vibrant life of the city.

Ponte Vecchio

Next, I made my way to the Ponte Vecchio, Florence’s oldest and most picturesque bridge. The medieval stone bridge, adorned with charming shops, is a sight to behold. As I sketched, I captured the bridge’s unique arches and the reflections dancing on the water below. The atmosphere was lively, with tourists and locals alike strolling across the bridge. Adding notes to my sketch, I described the vibrant energy and the warm hues of the setting sun that cast a golden glow over the scene.

Inside the Uffizi Gallery, I found a quiet corner to sketch the statue of Venus. The elegance of this sculpture, with its graceful curves and serene expression, was mesmerizing.
