Diwali Greeting Card Design
I enjoy creating seasonal greeting cards, which I create for friends and family. Having 2 cultures to inspire me, I create seasonal greeting cards, which focus around Diwali, Christmas, and Easter, which are the main seasonal holidays. This year I created a Diwali card which incorporated traditional Indian motifs, such as the Diva, Om, and Ganesha, embellished with flowers and peacock feather, in an ethnic India digital vector style.
Diwali involves the lighting of little lamps. These lamps allowed to burn through the late-night Fireworks are burst because it is believed that it keeps away evil spirits. During the Diwali celebrations all family and friends celebrating wear new clothes, which signifies the special day and enjoy celebrating Diwali by sharing sweets and snacks, which is another part of the religious Hindu festival.
The Diwali greeting artwork combines fine illustrated peacock feather detail at the base layer, on top of which Indian illustrated imagery is created upon. The Diva lamp is a key element of Diwali and it is an integral illustrative element of the artwork as well as incorporating the Om and the deity Ganesha into the artwork, which are recognizable Hindu elements highlighting the Diwali message. To balance and fill the space of the greeting card, I created sweeping bold lines and flowers for the Hindu imagery to be placed upon.
Ganesha is well known as the remover of obstacles, and the deity of intellect and wisdom. As the god of beginnings, he is honoured at the start of rituals and ceremonies. Which was one of the recommendations bestowed upon him by his father Shiva?
