Dairy Diary
The theme for the Dairy Diary Cover was created around the subject of flowers, plants, butterflies, birds and similar ‘nature’ type subject elements. I illustrated a hummingbird which became the main focal point of the illustration. I then created intricate vector detail into the hummingbird illustration, which included detailed inside of the panel of the wings, and the body of the hummingbird. I illustrated around the hummingbird, slowly building up the rest of the illustration, with different flowers, leaves, and swirls all of which are bespoke.
The Dairy Diary illustration, I used a drop shadow, to create depth and a 3D effect. The drop shadow was an effect I have not used very much within my illustration work, however, I think it has an interesting effect, which was used on the flowers, hummingbird, and butterfly on the Dairy Diary Cover artwork.
The colours I used were light and taken inspiration from nature, blues and greens the final image will wrap around the diary cover. The artwork is full and busy artwork. The illustration is busy with many elements of the illustration interacting within the illustration, I created the hummingbird to have the prominence on the page which draws your attention, and the flowers and insects and swirls would complement the hummingbird illustration.
