Map Illustration Shortlist Magazine Adidas map
Shortlist magazine, a widely distributed circular in London, expressed a keen interest in commissioning map illustrations for an upcoming feature on Adidas Boost Trainers. The primary goal was to infuse these artworks with a running theme that would effectively promote the new trainers.
The Map Illustrations portrayed the vibrant cities of London and Manchester. Given that the locations on these maps were sometimes quite distant from each other, the challenge lay in representing running routes in a non-literal yet engaging manner. The campaign for Shortlist Magazine entailed the creation of five distinct running maps, each mapping out running routes in different areas of London, along with an additional map highlighting a running route in Manchester.
For the London maps, specific areas were chosen to cater to different interests and themes. Westminster and the verdant parks—Regent’s Park, Hyde Park, Green Park, and St. James’s Park—comprised one of the running maps, offering a scenic journey through these iconic green spaces. Lambeth was selected as the pop culture map, featuring a route starting at the Vaults in Waterloo, passing through The Cinema Museum, and culminating at Brixton Village and The O2 Brixton Academy.
The London City architectural running map illustration highlighted some of the city’s architectural gems, including the iconic Lloyds building, the towering Shard, and the stunning interior of the Sky Garden, offering breathtaking views of London. Hackney was chosen as the arty running map, showcasing the impressive mural artwork created by renowned graffiti artists that adorns various parts of the Hackney area.
These map illustrations were thoughtfully crafted to capture the essence of each area and provide engaging running routes tailored to different interests and themes, aligning perfectly with the Adidas Boost Trainer feature in Shortlist magazine.
