World Map Chivas Regal The Venture Entrepreneur Competition
I had the privilege of creating a large topographic world map as an illustration for Chivas Regal and The Venture competition presentation. This global competition attracted over 1000 entries from around the world, with 20 finalists flown to San Francisco to pitch their sustainable business ideas to influential business leaders. The winning project would receive a substantial $1,000,000 prize.
The map itself was a unique piece of typographic art. It was constructed entirely from text derived from a comprehensive global report commissioned by Chivas Regal. Every letter and word was hand-drawn, meticulously crafted to fit the contours of the world map. The scale of this map was impressive, measuring 1500cm by 800cm in width. To create this masterpiece, I worked on it in sections, skillfully composing the entire piece within Photoshop. The final map would be printed at nearly 20 meters in width for the grand presentation in San Francisco.
Creating the Chivas Regal world map presented several challenges. First, I faced a tight deadline, which required me to work diligently and efficiently. Additionally, I had a holiday trip planned to Tuscany, Italy, which meant I had to take my work with me. This resulted in me working on the map while on trains, in airports, and even on planes during the vacation. It was a delicate balance between work and leisure. This experience taught me valuable lessons and instilled in me a newfound appreciation for illustration and freelance work, especially the flexibility it offers to work from different locations. It’s an aspect I look forward to exploring further in my future projects.
