Illustrated Map Les Echos Magazine
Les Echos, a renowned magazine in France, approached me through my illustration agent, Hugo, for a special commission. The client sought a captivating map of Holland that would be featured alongside an article within Les Echos. The primary objective was to create an illustrative map that would incorporate the logos of companies headquartered in Holland, along with their respective cities.
The Les Echos Illustrated Map project was meticulously detailed. It involved showcasing the logos of these companies while also infusing a creative touch that went beyond the typical imagery associated with Holland. My approach focused on highlighting the fascinating architecture of the Dutch cities where these prominent companies were located. For instance, I emphasized the unique townhouses in Amsterdam and the distinguished International Court of Justice building in The Hague.
Balancing the intricate architectural details with the prominence of the company logos was crucial. The illustrations of cityscapes were carefully designed not to overshadow the logos, ensuring that they remained the central focus of the maps and the article.
To bring the project to life, I harnessed the power of digital tools, particularly Adobe Photoshop. This software allowed me to arrange and position each hand-drawn element with precision. Furthermore, it facilitated the application of a thoughtfully chosen colour scheme. The selected colours were not only aesthetically pleasing but also complementary, enhancing the visibility of the featured companies and their respective cities.
Ultimately, the Les Echos Illustrated Map became a visually engaging and informative piece that effectively conveyed the essence of the companies and the unique architectural charm of Holland’s cities, all while seamlessly fitting into the article’s narrative.
