Design State of Mind Serpentine Gallery
Design State of Mind is an exhibition by Martino Gamper, its an exhibition showcasing all sorts of interesting collections by designers and artists, and selected industry professionals. The collections exhibited are from private and personal collections and the material varies dramatically, from a collection of differently found pebbles, which is the collection of Gamper himself, that is beautiful and wonderful to see such a range of different found pebbles, from large to small, smooth, light to grey to dark pebbles, contrasting to a collection of steel ware, consisting of pots, pans and coffee makers, all neatly arranged onto wall mounting shelving by Ignazio Gardella Bookcase 1970 Wood, black lacquered metal Courtesy of Nilufar Gallery Objects courtesy of Mats Theselius.
I suppose the point of this exhibition to show how we like to collect objects and things, and shelving is a way to display them. Before the digital age, we used to collect records, Cd’s Videos, and books neatly arrange onto shelving, however, in the digital age, we have been freed some space to allow for more interesting collections to take their space. The exhibitions highlight the possibilities and should give all of us a case of shelf envy as well as to think more seriously about starting an interesting collection of our if you have not a collection already.
This was my first visit to the Serpentine gallery, after the new architectural gem created by Zaha Hadid, it’s a wonderful piece of architecture, it fits in well with the rest of the serpentine gallery, mixing the old with the new.
