Digital Illustration Christmas Bauble Drink and be Merry
Digital Illustration Christmas Bauble Drink and be Merry typographic illustration was created for the Xmas and New Year period for friends and clients. The illustration uses both hand-drawn and digital illustrated elements. I used a range of ink pens, which included Rotring fine liner pens and brushed to create the hand-drawn elements of the illustrations. I choose to illustrate a Xmas bauble, as its easily associated with Xmas, and it’s a good shape to use combining many illustrated Xmas elements, such as the holly leaves, bells, and smaller bulbuls, which are all carefully arranged together around the typography, central to the illustration ‘Drink & be Merry’ to create the bauble.
I created the floral illustrations combining hand-drawn and digital techniques, which involved drawing illustrative elements and then importing them into Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, with different textured techniques.
I started the illustration with a rough initial sketch within my Moleskine sketch, once the illustration was in a rough sketch level. I scanned the illustration into Adobe Photoshop and, printed the illustration A4 paper size scale. I overplayed the illustration with my Layout pad and traced over the sketch-enlarged illustration. And added further hand drawn Xmas decoration elements, which I redrew using images found on the Internet.
Once the bauble illustration was at a dense level, it was rescanned into Adobe Photoshop, where I used textured imagery and masked particular areas of the illustrations such as the typography and the background to achieve a depth and rich textured layered effect.
This illustration was a personal project, which I choose to create to send to Clients, as well as friends and family. I choose to create personal projects as it’s an interesting and personal way to reach out to clients and friends.
