Cedar Communications got in contact to commision a map for Metropolitan magazine, which is a magazine from Eurostar. The commission was to illustrate a map of Amsterdam that combines highlights of culture and cuisine and not your usual tourist highlights. The illustrated map of Amsterdam brief was to create a visually pleasing map while at the same time being functional for people to use as well.

The locations to be illustrated for the map included the following,

Viscafe Gouden Hoek – its a stone’s throw away for the lively Westerpark’s Sculptures and skateboards, the fish restaurant is a local favorite the has a special Oyster menu and upscale fish and chips being served at this establishment.

Rijksmuseum – Five years after its epic renovation, Amsterdams golden age art trove continues to dazzle. Rembrandt’s The Night watch remains the big draw, but there’s much more besides, from intricate battleship to YSL’s Mondrian dress.

Van Gogh Museum – A penniless Vincent once paid awestruck hommage to old masters in the Rijksmuseum unaware that an institution in his own name would one day occupy the plot next door

Museum Van Loon – Once home to 17th-century painter Ferdinand Vol, this stately canal house offers a glimpse of how the other half lived, think guilded drawing rooms, beruffed family portraits, and box edged garden, plus changing exhibitions and installations by modern artists

Papeneiland – Inthe heart of the once working-class Jordan district, this waterside cafe serves a mean apple pie, the interior crammed with oil paintings and fairy lights.

De Hallem – I the Oud West district a covered food market multiplex cinema and a parade of independent shops have given a new lease of life to this Victorian tram shed. Now its a bright and breezy hive of commerce and culture

Decanter Magazine is a monthly publication focusing on fine wine. I was commissioned to illustrate a map of the Silverado Wine trail. It will be an illustration to go with a travel article on driving along the Silverado Wine Trail visiting wineries on the way.

The Silverado Trail that runs from Napa to Calistoga in the north of the valley. It’s named after an abandoned mining village, celebrated in the 19th century by Robert Louis Stevenson. You won’t find the same proliferation of wineries as on Highway 29, but at least you can drive in and out of them. The Trail hugs the eastern flank of the valley, with hardly any traffic lights to impede the flow. It’s also provided with cycle lanes for those who wish to combine hedonistic winery visits with gentle exercise.

Wineries listed:

Duckhorn – “The tasting room occupies a spacious house just south of the Trail…relaxing atmosphere, either indoors or on the verandah”

Joseph Phelps – former cattle ranch; gorgeous redwood winery houses a spacious visitors’ center, and a fine terrace overlooks hills and vineyards; also have an in-house chef (Brian Sutton, not named here)

Quintessa – “beautiful Rutherford vineyards, and the swooping stone-faced winery set into the hillside”

Miner Family – Rhône varieties; “its tasting room is rarely crowded and the staff are only too happy to chat as well as to pour”

Robert Sinskey – “all tasting flights are accompanied by nibbles prepared in the adjoining kitchens, often by Dr. Sinskey’s daughter-in-law Maria, who has written cookbooks about seasonal food”; “Most of the grapes are estate-grown and farmed biodynamically or organically”

Stag’s Leap – “airy tasting room, with its stone walls and plate-glass windows with views onto the vines. Visitors are also welcome to view the bucolic scene from the terrace.

Gazing onto the SLV and Fay vineyards, glass in hand…”

Silverado – “The winery and lofty tasting room are perched on a knoll giving fine views of the valley and its vineyards”

Chimney Rock – house

Darioush – “…glorious, yellow-stoned, neo-Persian extravaganza of columns, porticoes, and fountains, all leading towards a lofty pillared visitor center” (which may risk being clichéd, but is probably an inevitable choice…); otherwise “tastings can also be organised in the shady gardens”

Black Stallion – “huge tasting room, a former equestrian center”; Gaspare Vineyard near the winery

It was insightful to draw this particular map for Decanter magazine, it gave me an insight into the Napa Valley wine region, It is one of my travel dreams to drive through America, I am going to add this route to my bucket list destinations.

A chance to support your favorites restaurant, Instagram feed and more, the OFM 50 lists the best cheap eats and bars nationwide, as well as celebrated chefs and food personalities. It’s the only awards where you’ll find a neighborhood butcher, producer or deli alongside a Nigel Slater or Nigella Lawson. The cover illustration commission illustrated typographically created from the article headlines. The headlines illustrated with different hand-drawn type styles crafted to snugly fit around the main photographic cover image of Rosio Sanchez. The initial sketch focused on the composition of the heading text from each article and working on how the headings will fit together cohesively to work together as one whole typographic illustration. Once the rough composition was work on the heading text was sketched into place and roughly organised so that all the headings and word fitted into the spaces. Different hand-drawn typefaces were drawn to differentiate the heading text from each other and to enhance the readability as much as possible.

Cartier is hosting a launch event at a new opening at a store in New Bond Street. They plan on chauffeur driving their invitees/clients down Regent St from various hotels, The route of the map will cover Regent St, prior to the junction with Piccadilly Circus. Oxford Circus direction, traveling south. At Piccadilly Circus, the illustration will have a drawing Eros as it is a well-recognized landmark.

Their journey then takes them right at the Piccadilly Circus junction along Picadilly coming to a halt outside Burlington Arcade. At that point, they will be escorted by Boys on a red carpet through the Arcade to Burlington Gardens, still on a red carpet into New Bond Street to the store. the map has 3 illustrative Cartier boutique stores. The Cartier shop opposite Burlington Gardens and the one directly behind it in Albemarle St. The map guides the clients to the entrance opposite Burlington Gardens. After clients visited this launch event there are two/three other part-events at the Royal Academy of Arts, Isabel nightclub/restaurant, and Anabel¹s nightclub. Blue Moon Brewing Company illustrated Glasses

Blue Moon Brewing Company illustrated Artists Limited Edition Glasses. A design agency based in San Francisco working with Blue Moon Brewing Company contacted me about creating a design for a beer glass. The creative concept required me to illustrate an all-white design that is supposed to be colored in by the customers. They gave me creative license to devise a concept in my illustrative style that reflects the company’s history and values, and it was a task that I took on with enthusiasm.

The concept behind the illustration was to reflect the history of the company. While Blue Moon was established in Colorado, its history spans the breadth of the United States. After Keith Villa, Brewmaster and Founder created the iconic recipe for Blue Moon in 1995, he and his crew traveled the road. For the next ten years, they visited bar after bar, store after store, to tell their story.

I wanted to illustrate a design that captured everything special about Blue Moon. The left-hand side of the design is inspired by Keith Villa, representing his experiences that have inspired the recipe for the beer. the pattern depicts the melting pot of ideas, creativity that have come together to make Blue Moon into the brand it is today. You’ll notice ingredients like Valencia orange peel, coriander, wheat and Hops, all mixing together to formulate the recipe.

Movement and travel are also seen in my illustration, and they are depicted on the right side of the glass design. The flowing lines represent the team’s travels across America, marking the beginning of the Blue Moon’s story as a road trip across America led the brand into establishing Blue Moon been into an internationally-known product that is shipped and drank around the world.

A little village inside the capital, Stoke Newington has been rated Londoner’s favourite shopping street. But there’s plenty besides the hip clothing and lifestyle boutiques to love, including a crop of new restaurants and North London’s biggest slice of greenery, Clissold Park.

In terms of Radius addresses in Stoke Newington I’m thinking the following:

– Strut Archives: 182 Stoke Newington Church Street, London, Greater London N16 0JL (vintage clothes)

–L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele: 125 Stoke Newington Church St, Stoke Newington, London N16 0UH (straight from Naples this tiny baby blue venue is meant to be best pizzeria in town, with queues around the block!)

–Hub: 88 Stoke Newington Church St, Stoke Newington, London N16 0AP (this is a cool menswear shop, specializing in cult labels but will mention the womenswear shop down the road in copy too),

– Search and Destroy: 129 Stoke Newington Church St, Stoke Newington, London N16 0UH (lifestyle store, with everything from clothes and jewelry to nick-nacks.)

–Botanique Workshop and Flower shop: 166 Stoke Newington Church St (pretty self-explanatory)

–Good Egg: 93 Stoke Newington Church St, Stoke Newington, London N16 0AS (hip Isreali-influenced eatery with great brunch!)

–Nook: 153 Stoke Newington Church Street (very Instagram-friendly array of homeware etc…)

–The House at Clissold Park: (Mansion house serving up coffee and cakes in the middle of the park )

Moleskine Sketchbook inky Map Drawing of Zurich:

With diverse architecture across the city, breath-taking views and a thriving art scene, Zurich is well is well known for its banking sector and accurate Swiss time, It also has many museums and galleries to enjoy as well. During my time in this extraordinary city, I explored five destinations:

– The Grossmünster: is an Evangelical Protestant church in the Old Town of Zurich, and is one of Zurich’s most famous landmarks

– Franmunster Kirche: Founded in 853 by King Louis the German, this church with its convent was inhabited by the female members of the aristocracy of Europe. Important architectural features include the Romanesque chancel and the high vaulted transept. Its most stunning treasures are the stained glass windows

– St Peter Kirche: The St. Peter church in Zurich has the largest clock face in Europe. The clock face measures 8.7m in diameter. There are five bells dating from 1880 in the tower. Until 1911 the church tower was used as a fire watch post.

– Zurich Fountain: In Zurich, there is no need to look for a supermarket if you want a drop of water, since you can simply quench your thirst at one of Zurich’s many fountains. You can never be far away, because Zurich has the most fountains of any city in the world with approx. 1,200 drinking water fountains.

Moleskine Sketchbook inky Map Drawing of Bregenz:

On my weekend trip to Zurich Switzerland and Bregenz Austria, A relaxing weekend spent with a friend that lives in the small Austrian town. Bregenz is a charming little town that is based on Lake Constance, nestled between the Swiss and German Borders. Bregenz hosts a annual music festival during the summer months at the world renowned Opera House. A interesting feature of the Opera house is the stage set based on Lake Constance itself and the theatre being in the open air. The opera Theatre was also featured in the Daniel Craig Bond Movie, Quantum of Solace.

– Bregenz Opera House: A traditional opera house, with an open-air lakeside stage, where productions are held in the most spectacular fashion

– The Kunsthaus Gallery: is also internationally renowned amongst aficionados of art and architecture. It was designed by the Swiss architect Peter Zumthor. The gallery has a glass facade, the interior is a open plan space constructed of concrete

– Post Office Building Bregenz: Located near the harbor and the railway station, the Post Office was built in 1895. This grandiose building has the same construction as the Imperial Post Office in the Bad Ischl resort

– Fishersteg Sunset Bar: The balcony over the lake the Fischersteg is a relaxing place for a evening drink overlooking the Lake Constance and Enjoy the sun setting over the horizon.
