Oscar Wilde Murders book jacket artwork commissions for John Murray publishing, written by British Broadcaster and ex MP Gyles Brandreth. Each Book Oscar Wilde Murders cover is designed with a individual style, I illustrate a pattern boarder on the top edge and bottom edge of the book cover jacket. I then illustrate key elements from the story which I illustrate onto the front of the book jacket covers. The most dominant feature is of course Oscar Wilde, on the front cover, accompanied by the key illustration taken from the title of each of the stories.

Gyles Brandreth is a writer, performer, former MP and government whip his career has ranged from presenting Have I Got News For You. Gyle’s is currently a reporter with The One Show on BBC1 and a regular on Radio 4’s Just a Minute, his popular Victorian detective stories – The Oscar Wilde Murder Mysteries – are being published in nineteen countries around the world and are currently in development for TV as well. All six books in the series, Oscar Wilde and the Candellight Murders, Oscar Wilde and the Ring of Death, Oscar Wilde and the Dead Man’s Smile, Oscar Wilde and the Nest of Vipers, Oscar Wilde and the Vatican Murders and Oscar Wilde and the Murders at Reading Gaol, have been commissioned book jackets by John Murray Publishing, which I have had the pleasure to work on.

What I Meant Book Cover Illustration

What I Meant

What I Meant

I Have been commissioned by Randomhouse from New York, to produce a book cover for the Title, What I Meant, Authored by Marie Lamba.  A brief excerpt of the book, Sangeet Jumnal, 15, has a crush on gorgeous Jason in her high school in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. She knows he has noticed her and thinks she is “exotic,” but even if Jason asks her out, her strict Sikh dad forbids her to date until she is 16. But why does her American mom go along with that? Then Sang’s best friend, Gina, suddenly stops speaking to her. Is Gina bulimic? Worst of all, Dad’s demonic, widowed sister-in-law, Chachi, has moved in, and she spies and steals and gets Sang into big trouble. Everything blows up when Sang tries for a secret date.

This is a Young Adult book, meaning the targeted audience is 12-years-old and up. The cover design is pretty, and girly. I achieved this by adding elements, which were girly such as butterflies and flowers with the main character (named Sang) worked in. Her Profile was illustrated to be the prominent feature of the front cover. I created objects from her life, which I incorporated into the pattern around her. An important theme of the book was Sang’s Indian heritage, I integrated an Indian style and flavor into the front cover illustration, which was important to bring across. The Indian pattern was achieved using traditional Henna Patterns designs, which are distinctively ethnic.
